‘Don’t be afraid’ is the my first performative collaboration with my brilliant husband Paul Newman as part of his performative explorations. I play Frankenstein and hubby is the monster. Played out as a silent sketch with speech bubbles, the monster rejects Frankenstein’s ideas of progress, but all’s well that ends well.
Thank you to http://www.marcinsz.com for the brilliant photographic images taken at Vivid Projects Birmingham as part of Vivid Live – Collaborasaurs.
Special thanks to Alex Billingham and Vicky Roden for making this possible.

Vivid Live hosted November’s Digbeth first Friday for Collaborasaurs. Two hours of durational performances from 4 sets of artists.
Messy / Awkward / Dangerous / Incomplete / Unpolished / Fragile – Words seldom encouraged in Art spaces. Collaborasaurs gives the artists licence to try them all out.
A development from the Live Lab held in September by Vivid Live. This event invited artists to consider how we use collaboration to improve our work and test out areas outside of individual interests. Providing a platform for the artists to develop new work while allowing them space to fail.
New New Moon – deliver a dance with a difference.
Nita & Paul Neuman – reanimate their own fantasy world.
Emily Scarrott & Dinosaur Kilby – repeat until….repeat until….repeat until…
David Checkley & Aleks Wojtulewicz – reposition the viewer as the voyeur.
Curated by Alex Billingham (current Vivid Live Associate Curator) this also includes a chance to examine the Vivid Live archive built up during Kate Spence’s tenure as the first Vivid Live Associate Curator.
